Frequently Asked Questions
Can I do this if I am a beginner?
Of course you can! As a beginner, just take care with the plank positions and feel free to put your knees on the floor. And for the squats, just do it without an added weight for the first few times, and add a weight when you feel it starts to get easy. (Also - it's normal for your wrists to feel like they've worked a bit. They will get stronger over time).
What if I don't have a kettlebell at home?
No worries. Do the squats with your body weight. It's still a great exercise! And in time, you may feel motivated to borrow or buy a kettlebell to spice up your strength-building journey.
What if I just like one of the three classes? Can I keep doing just that one?
Absolutely!! It's your body, and your workout. If you find the one of the three classes suits your physical and mental needs most, then just repeat that one whenever you can. Yoga is meant to be repeated many times, so that you stop thinking about what move is coming next. (So no need to 'keep it exciting!').
I have weak wrists! Can I still do this?
Yes you can. But do take it slow. The wrist joints and muscles WILL get stronger over time when you put healthy stress on them. (Just as your thigh muscles and knees will get stronger with squatting!) But make sure you roll your wrists first, and when your hands are on the ground, feel the pressure through all your fingers and all your knuckles (press these into the ground). This will lessen the pressure just on your wrists. You can do this!
How will I know I am doing it right if a teacher isn't watching me?
I often get asked this. And I get why you might be worried. We've been told so often to rely on OTHER people's opinions about our body. But yoga is actually an invitation for you to TAKE BACK control and become intimately aware of how your body feels in different positions. So YOU get to decide what's right for you! Stay aware of what you feel, and if intuitively it doesn't feel right for you, then change the position. You don't have to look exactly like how I am demonstrating the pose! Our bodies are different.
